Rate Limiting & Fair Use

Understanding our usage policies

Why Rate Limiting?

Rate limiting ensures fair access to our service for all users. Without these limits, automated scripts and heavy users could overwhelm our servers, making the service unavailable for everyone. Our rate limiting policies balance accessibility with sustainability.

We implement these limits to:

  • Prevent automated abuse and bot traffic
  • Ensure consistent service availability during peak times
  • Maintain server performance and response times
  • Distribute resources fairly among all users
  • Protect third-party platforms from excessive requests

Current Rate Limits

Our rate limiting system tracks usage per IP address and implements multiple tiers of restrictions:

Hourly Limits

Designed for normal browsing patterns and personal use:

  • Standard users: Multiple downloads per hour
  • Resets every 60 minutes from first request
  • Allows burst downloading for immediate needs

Daily Limits

Additional protection against sustained heavy use:

  • Higher threshold for daily downloads
  • Resets at midnight UTC
  • Provides ample capacity for legitimate use

Queue Management

During high-traffic periods, downloads may be queued rather than processed immediately. Our queue system:

  • Processes requests in the order received
  • Provides real-time status updates
  • Typically completes queued downloads within minutes
  • Prevents service overload during peak times

What Happens When You Hit the Limit?

If you exceed the rate limits, you'll see a clear message explaining the situation:

  • Soft Limit Reached: Your download will be queued for processing shortly
  • Hourly Limit Exceeded: You'll need to wait until the hour resets (time remaining displayed)
  • Daily Limit Exceeded: Service resumes at midnight UTC (countdown timer shown)
  • Abuse Detection: Suspected automated abuse may result in temporary IP blocking

Fair Use Guidelines

To ensure the best experience for yourself and other users, please follow these fair use guidelines:

Acceptable Behavior

  • Downloading content at a reasonable pace
  • Using the service manually through the website
  • Respecting queue times during busy periods
  • Downloading content you need for personal use
  • Spacing out downloads over time

Unacceptable Behavior

  • Using automated scripts or bots
  • Attempting to circumvent rate limits
  • Downloading excessively in short time periods
  • Running multiple concurrent downloads
  • Mass downloading for commercial purposes

Technical Implementation

Our rate limiting system uses sophisticated tracking to ensure fairness:

  • IP-Based Tracking: Limits are applied per IP address to prevent abuse while allowing legitimate shared networks
  • Firebase Integration: Real-time database tracking ensures accurate limit enforcement across distributed servers
  • CAPTCHA Verification: Human verification required for each download prevents automated abuse
  • Rolling Windows: Limits use rolling time windows rather than fixed periods for smoother distribution
  • Dynamic Adjustment: Limits may be adjusted during extreme traffic conditions

Tips for Efficient Use

Plan Your Downloads

If you need multiple downloads, space them out over time rather than downloading everything at once. This ensures you stay within limits and provides a better experience.

Use During Off-Peak Hours

Service is typically faster during off-peak hours (late evening and early morning UTC). Downloads process more quickly with shorter or no queue times.

Be Patient with Queues

During busy periods, your download may be queued. This is normal and ensures everyone gets fair access. Most queued downloads complete within 2-5 minutes.

Avoid Multiple Tabs

Don't open multiple tabs to try downloading several videos simultaneously. This counts toward your limits faster and may trigger abuse detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I increase my rate limit?

Rate limits are the same for all users to ensure fairness. We don't offer premium tiers or paid options to increase limits. Our limits are designed to accommodate legitimate personal use.

Why was I blocked?

Temporary blocks occur when our system detects patterns consistent with automated abuse or extreme overuse. Most blocks are temporary and lift automatically. Ensure you're not using scripts or downloading excessively.

Do limits apply to all platforms?

Yes, rate limits apply globally across all supported platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Twitter/X, Reddit, Tumblr, Telegram). Your total downloads from all platforms count toward your limits.

Can multiple people share an IP address?

Yes, but they share the same rate limits. This is common in offices, schools, or households with multiple users. Downloads from any user on the shared IP count toward the total limit.

How do I check my current usage?

If you approach a rate limit, you'll see a notification with your current usage and time until reset. We don't display usage proactively to keep the interface clean, but information appears when relevant.

Policy Updates

We reserve the right to adjust rate limits based on:

  • Server capacity and performance requirements
  • Observed usage patterns and abuse attempts
  • Changes in hosting costs or infrastructure
  • Restrictions imposed by third-party platforms
  • Legal or regulatory requirements

Significant changes to rate limits will be communicated through updates to this page. We strive to provide advance notice of major policy changes that affect user experience.
